Little Known Fitting Tips

Formal Trousers:
The perfect length pant breaks slightly on top of the shoe and angles a bit downward.

Formal Shirts:
Shirtsleeves should extend one quarter to one half inch beyond the jacket's sleeves.

Accessories:
You may wear suspenders with a cummerbund. However, you should not wear suspenders with a vest.

Both cummerbunds and vests should cover the top waistband of your formal trousers when worn properly. To remedy: adjust positioning of cummerbund on your waist - or - adjust neck strap on a backless vest to allow for more length.

If you think you may remove your jacket during the reception, opt for a fullback vest. Cummerbunds are worn with the pleats facing up.

A boutonniere should be worn on the left lapel and tilted slightly outward. Wearing both a boutonniere and a pocket square is not recommended.

The tips of the collar on a wing-collar shirt should be tucked behind the bow tie, not left to flap in front of the tie.

Formal Shoes:
Allow your pants color to dictate your shoe color. Black formal shoes and socks should be worn when your pants are black. White shoes and socks worn with white pants. Likewise for ivory...

If you are choosing to wear one of our colored coats and choose to coordinate the coat with matching pants, choose black formal shoes. If you coordinate the coat with black formal trousers, choose black shoes, too.
